2019 Honda Insight: Third Time’s a Charm

This third-generation Honda hybrid offers impressive fuel economy in a sleek package.

The latest version of the Insight sits between the Civic and the Accord in Honda’s lineup.

Let’s take a look at the details that make this hybrid a stand-out.

You won’t notice a whole lot of pizzazz with this new model, though it’s a good-looking sedan that resembles a smaller version of the Accord.

The base model (LX) has cloth seats, heated mirrors, a push-button start, and a basic audio system.

Choosing to level up to the EX will get you an eight-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, and a Smart Entry system that allows you to get into your vehicle as long as the key fob is in your pocket, purse, etc.

While leather seats are an option for the LX and EX, they come standard on the Touring model.

The rear leg-room is an impressive 37.4 inches.

Safety features

Every model comes standard with the Honda Sensing suite of safety features, including:

  • Forward-collision warning.

  • Automatic emergency braking.

  • Lane-departure warning.

  • Lane-keeping assist.

The optional blind-spot warning system is only available on the EX and Touring models.

Honda LaneWatch shows an image of the right side of your vehicle when you use your right turn signal and is another feature only available on the EX and Touring trims.

The power system

The 2019 Honda Insight has a two-motor hybrid system, which is a 1.5-liter engine that works with an electric motor and a hybrid battery pack.

The manufacturer states that in most conditions, the vehicle will run on electric power, while the gasoline engine works as a generator to charge the battery.
